Reporting a Bug Well
The faster we can reproduce a problem, the faster we can fix it. The perfect bug report includes:
- Your Android version and phone model — behaviour can differ between manufacturers.
- The exact steps — what you tapped, in what order.
- Expected vs. actual — what you thought would happen, and what happened instead.
- A screenshot or screen recording of the error state, if you can capture one.
- Whether PhoneVault is your default phone app at the time — several features depend on the role.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why does PhoneVault ask to become my default phone app?
Android permits only the default phone app to read the call log, draw an in-call screen and reject calls before the phone rings — that is a platform rule. PhoneVault requests the role because its features depend on it, and it fulfils the whole role: dialing, in-call screen, call history and blocking. You can hand the role back at any time in Android Settings → Apps → Default apps → Phone app.
Does PhoneVault upload my call log or contacts anywhere?
No. PhoneVault has no account and no server, and the app contains no network upload path. Your call log and contacts are read on your device to provide the features and are never transmitted. You can export your own data to a JSON file whenever you like.
Will I lose my call history if I switch back to my old dialer?
No. Your call history and contacts are Android's own records — they belong to the system, not to any dialer. Switching the default phone app changes which app displays them, nothing more. Notes and tasks you created in PhoneVault remain in PhoneVault.
How do I back up my PhoneVault notes, tasks and directory?
Use the JSON export inside the app to save everything to a file, then keep that file somewhere safe — a PC, an external drive or a cloud folder of your choice. PhoneVault stores everything locally, so this export is your backup.
Do blocked numbers know they are blocked?
No message is sent to them. Blocked numbers are rejected before your phone rings; to the caller it behaves like an unanswered or unavailable line, depending on your carrier.
How do I report a bug or request a feature?
Email [email protected]. For bugs, include your Android version, what you did, what you expected and what happened instead — screenshots help. We read every message.
